About Us
Cape Fear Area Doulas has a two fold mission: first, to educate the public about birth options and doulas; and secondly, to offer support to the doulas in the area. Our ultimate goal is to improve the birthing experiences of all the women in the Cape Fear area. To fullfill these goals we offer regular public educational events such as open houses and classes; we distribute a brocure about doulas and maintain this website. We are proud to offer the most comprehensive listing of doulas in Southeastern North Carolina. To support local doulas we have monthly potlucks and opportunities for further education. CFAD is in the process of applying for non-profit status.
The members of CFAD have a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We have childbirth educators, nurses, a lactation consultant, La Leche League leaders, and a social worker. Some are trained through DONA and others ALACE or CAPPA. We all attend births at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and some of us also attend home births or work in other hospitals. Together we have experience with massage, yoga, belly casting, photography, nutrition, and Reiki. Each Doula in the network is independent, and the services they offer my vary.
