Anna Van Wagoner
Giving birth is a transformative experience. As your doula I will listen to your hopes and fears and help you prepare to give birth. I like to meet with you and your partner at least twice before the birth so that we can get to know one another and I can understand your strengths, needs, and desires. During labor I will support your birth plan and offer comfort measures such as massage, position changes, visualization, Reiki, and breath awareness techniques. After your baby is born I will stay with you until you are settled in and breastfeeding has been initiated. I will visit you again postpartum to discuss your birth experience and any concerns you may have about breastfeeding or baby care. From pregnancy through postpartum I will be available to answer your questions. Every woman is unique. My support is individualized, and I will always respect your choices.
I am the mother of one daughter. My own birthing experience taught me that by surrendering to the birth process I could access a state of peace beyond pain. I want to help other women access their own strength and inner wisdom through birth.
I received my doula training through ALACE in the fall of 2005. That following winter I facilitated the rebirth of Cape Fear Area Doulas. I have a strong background in yoga and relaxation. Also I am a Reiki Master and an active La Leche League member. I grew up in Idaho and earned my BA from The Evergreen State College in Performing Arts and Creative Writing. I love playing outside, photography, doing yoga, crocheting, writing, curling up with a good book, and spending time with family and friends. Attending births is a privilege I am always very grateful for.
